Frans Masereel was the originator of the modern woodcut novel.He studied for a short time at the École des Beaux-Arts in Ghent and began working as an artist and newspaper illustrator in Paris in the 1910s.Masereel’s style features strong contrast, dynamic lines, and clear, graphic shapes that link him to the German Expressionists.
